BRYC consists of one representative from each region and one indigenous representative, altogether 14 young people. Its main purpose is to strengthen youth cooperation and to empower young people to actively participate in the shaping of the Barents region and the society they live in. BRYC has a strong regional perspective and works closely with the RWGYI.
Each year BRYC arranges a youth event. At the yearly youth event in LuleƄ in November 2008, the participants came up with an idea to arrange a tour in the Barents region with focus on Barents culture and human rights: The Reggae, Rock and Rights Tour. This concept has since then been under development and will hopefully be launched on full scale in 2011.
The tour will enthuse youth for human rights through creative workshops. It will also spread the Barents identity through live music from the entire region. A pre-project has been conducted to examine the possibilities to arrange such a tour. After that a pilot tour has started in January and is currently finding methods on how to work with human rights on a suitable level in the different regions. The pilot tour works closely with local teams of young co-creators to ensure that the content of the tour is well adopted for the target group, young people in the age of 16-18 years. The next workshop will be held in UmeƄ in March 23-24, and there are upcoming events planned in Finland. A workshop for indigenous youth is due in May.
The main tour will start in 2011 and it will visit all 13 regions in the Barents cooperation. For more information, please visit the tour blog at barentstour.wordpress.com.
